Government of St. Petersburg

Article 10 of the Constitution of the Russian Federation sets out that the state power in the Russian Federation shall be exercised involving the separation of powers: legislative, executive, and judicial. It is understood that legislative, executive and judicial state authorities are separated.

Article 11 of the Constitution sets out that the state power in the subjects of the Russian Federation shall be exercised by the state power bodies that are constituted by these subjects.

System of state power bodies of Saint Petersburg consists of:

  • the supreme and sole legislative power body — the Legislative Assembly of Saint Petersburg
  • The Government of Saint Petersburg is the supreme executive body of Saint Petersburg headed by the Governor of Saint Petersburg and executive authorities of Saint Petersburg led by the Government of Saint Petersburg;
  • the judicial state authorities of Saint Petersburg — the Statutory Court of Saint Petersburg and the justices of the peace of Saint Petersburg.
